At Buxmont Exchange, every pre-owned watch goes through a careful, hands-on review before we offer it for sale. Our process follows established luxury-watch industry standards and best practices, with authenticity, provenance, mechanical performance, condition, and transparent disclosure at the center of every inspection.

1. Identity & Reference Review

We begin by confirming the watch’s stated brand, model, reference, configuration, serial and identifying details. We compare the case, dial, hands, bezel, crown, bracelet or strap, clasp, engravings, and other components for consistency with the watch being represented.

2. Authenticity Inspection

Our watchmakers personally inspect each piece for authenticity. The review includes construction, finishing, markings, materials, component fit, and model-specific details. Where appropriate, we open the case and inspect the movement to verify that the watch and its major components are consistent with the genuine article.

3. Provenance & Database Checks

We review available identifying information and perform stolen-watch database checks as part of our due-diligence process. When box, papers, warranty cards, service records, or other documentation accompany a watch, we examine them for consistency with the timepiece and accurately disclose what is included.

4. Movement & Functional Inspection

We inspect the movement and test the watch’s mechanical functions, including winding, time setting, date change, chronograph operation, and other complications when present. We look for visible signs of damage, improper modification, or issues that could affect operation.

5. Timekeeping & Performance Testing

We evaluate operating performance and timekeeping using appropriate watchmaking equipment and confirm that primary functions perform as represented. Results are considered in the context of the watch’s age, movement, and service history.

6. Water-Resistance Testing

Where applicable, we test water resistance using appropriate pressure-testing procedures and equipment. Because seals, gaskets, age, prior service, and case condition can affect water resistance over time, any specific water-resistance representation is based on the testing and condition of the individual watch.

7. Condition & Component Review

We inspect the case, crystal, dial, hands, bezel, crown, bracelet or strap, clasp, and other exterior components. We assess overall condition, identify notable wear or modifications, and make sure the listing reflects the watch as accurately as possible.

8. Final Review & Listing

Before a watch reaches the site, we review our inspection findings against the listing so its description, photographs, condition, included accessories, and known details are presented accurately and transparently.
